The enveloping warmth that permeates the room creates a cozy atmosphere and a feeling of well-being that one would like to preserve. The interplay of light and shadow, the use of natural materials, and the careful design create a pleasant atmosphere.
In the heart of the picturesque Bavarian Alps, in Ruhpolding, stands a traditional hotel. In view of a planned upgrade to 4-star quality and the desire to offer its guests an exclusive SPA experience, the hotel decided to undertake an expansion. What was the challenge with this project? The spatial constraints, given by the location of the hotel in the village center. Since an above-ground expansion was out of the question, an underground solution had to be found. But how do you create an atmosphere underground that is not oppressive, but relaxing and revitalizing?
A light atrium served as a solution to direct daylight deep into the underground SPA area, thus providing refreshing brightness. However, the atrium alone is not enough to illuminate the entire area. Therefore, the focus was on not seeing darkness as a disadvantage, but skillfully integrating it into the interior design. Deep, quiet rooms with atmospheric lighting invite you to deep relaxation.
A highlight of the SPA area is the panorama sauna. It was particularly desired by the customers and presented a challenge to integrate it in such a way that the daylight in the area is not blocked. Although it is located underground, this well-thought-out central element with special glass structures conveys the impression of an open space with a beautiful view into the cozy inner courtyard.

The masterful combination of natural wood colors and refined anthracite details gives the rooms a cozy, timeless elegance.
The clear design language, characterized by simple, straight shapes and lines, influences the spatial geometry and composition of the project and creates a timeless design. A special highlight is the panorama sauna with a modern glass front, which allows you a breathtaking view into the lovingly designed inner garden.
The ambience offers an incomparable wellness experience that touches body, mind and soul alike and brings the life energy back into flow.
